Plaster Shark model

The first day was spent in school making large models of sea creatures from chicken wire and newspaper and covering them in plaster bandage. The two sharks were each over a metre long and a couple of the large starfish would have made good meals for the whole group!

Unfortunately, because plaster bandage takes time to dry, the painting had to be done when the activity days were over, but no one minded painting them in the sunshine during their lunch breaks, the following week.  Some children also made dough models of sea creatures and we had a talk and tasting session given by a fishmonger.

On the second day the group visited Birmingham where they looked at a series of locks on the canals and then visited the Sea Life Centre. Everyone enjoyed having a photo on the octopus and walking in the tunnel surrounded by sharks, rays and eels.
