Warwick Castle

In preparation for a day at Warwick Castle, the group looked at a variety of pictures of castles, including Warwick, and then designed, made and painted a castle with a keep, towers, curtain wall and portcullis.

One of the parents (who belonged to a medieval battle group) bought in some of his equipment and gave the children a talk about the armour worn by knights and the weapons they used.   He made all his own garments and weapons and we found out that the linked chain armour was very expensive and very, very heavy - some children could hardly move with it on!

The following day was spent at Warwick where the children not only explored the castle, but watched falconry displays, mock battles, looked at ancient crafts and had a go at everything they could, including shooting with crossbows and sitting in the stocks!
