Mathematics

2004 winning 24 game team

Maths is important.  Most of our children like maths and enjoy the way we teach it.  Children gain self confidence through their ability to tackle problems, especially where a sound knowledge of tables and other basic skills can be applied.   It is important to us all that they are successful.

At Pre-School and in the Reception Class our maths is based on the Early Learning Goals.  The National Numeracy Strategy provides a framework for maths teaching throughout the school.

All year 5 and 6 children are taught by Mr. Mansfield for maths. By the time he has spent two years with them they have certainly learned a thing or two and he knows them well!

In 2000 a team of Wigmore Primary School pupils were runners up in a 24 game organised by the LEA.  They beat many larger schools and older pupils.  In 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, Wigmore Primary School were the winners.
