Speaking and listening 06.10.2005

Years 5 and 6 spent the morning taking part in a Communication skills workshop, then in the afternoon they went and say Peter and the Wolf in Hereford Cathedral.  Here are some reports they have written about the day.

On Thursday the 6th of October year 5 and 6 had BT people come in morning to talk about communication and listening skills. We also went to see Peter and the wolf at Hereford Cathedral in the afternoon.

In the morning three people came in to talk about communication and listening skills from the BT group. First they performed a play for half an hour. There was Tyler, Ella and Cassie. Cassie was best friends with Ella and they were shopping, and fell out because Ella wanted to stay longer, but Cassie’s mum was waiting for them. Ella did not like Tyler but Cassie did. But in the end it all worked out fine.

After the play we all went back to our class rooms when Tyler came with us but his real name was Tim. We carried out an some work on how we should talk to one another.

In the afternoon we travelled by coach to Hereford Cathedral to watch Peter and the Wolf. Some parts where ok but others weren’t. It was a bit boring towards the end because all it was, was a picture of a man playing an organ and two people telling the story.

Then we walked back to the coach and drove off to school in time for the buses and clubs.

On the morning of Thursday 6th of October, 2005, classes five and six took part in a BT education programme performance.  The performance was over half an hour long and it took place in the school hall.  Mr Mansfield, Mrs Myers and Miss Wright watched the performance with us.

The main characters of the play were Cassie (played by Ruth), Ella (played by Louise) and Tyler (played by Tim).  after we had finished watching the play we went back into the classroom and we all took part in a work related task all to do with communication.  We had key words such as respectful and truthful (these were only two of them).

Later, Tyler (Tim) let the year six take part in some drama scenes.  Tim, Louise and Ruth asked if the performance could be improved in any way by class six.

Class six decided to improve the scene by being calm and communicating well with each other. I really enjoyed the performance and most of all participating in the drama scenes.
